a friend suggested that i could increase yeald, without sacraficing
quality. if i put my plant under black light, after she gets her 12
hrs of mixed sun-grolamp light. is this true? does a bug zapper give
the right color of light??

No, not really. There's always been some debate over whether or not more
infra red light will increase quality. Same thing as growing pot at high
alititudes where it receives more infra red naturally. But I've never seen
it attributed to measurably higher yields. Your friend may have it
backwards though, in that he may mean it could increase quality without
sacrificing yield. Furthermore, what's different in your case is that
you're talking about adding more time to the photoperiod instead of just
augmenting a normal 12 hours flowering photoperiod by adding more infra red
light to your normal lights. In that case I do think you would end up
yielding slightly less, taking longer to do it because of the longer
flowering photoperiod, and perhaps even risk hermaphroditism.

I don't know, but I wouldn't let the color fool you. Though black lights
appear to be blue, you can't get that day-glo effect they give from an
incandescent bulb that's merely been painted blue. Much of what you're
after is in the invisible spectrum anyhow, I believe.

I think you guys mean ultraviolet, not infrared. There is more
ultraviolet at higher altitudes, which is how the theory got started;
but has not been proved conclusively. In any case, blacklight is
useless. The only kind of ultraviolet light that might help is the
type that is very dangerous to be around. Most places don't even sell
those dangerous UV lights anymore (for legal liability reasons),
because they can cause skin cancer and blindness; and I wouldn't get
into that stuff at all if I were you.
