Another outdoor grow season will soon be upon us, so today I placed my seed order. No sativas this year after the problems I had getting them finished last year, all indicas or indica dominant crosses. Nothing that finishes after early October. That's fine with me. Even though I like sativas during the day, I've really become an indica lover for night time smoking. I've got a lot of Columbian Red Haze put up and will be growing some super autos for sativas. I'm splitting the order with a friend so we'll both have more variety. Here's what we're getting:

Barney's LSD
Barney's Night Shade
Barney's Pineapple Chunk
World of Seeds Amnesia
World of Seeds Pakistan Valley

I also have some Afghani #1 seeds from last year and will start a couple of those along with 1 each of the above for a total of 6 full size plants in 15 gallon pots. Tonight I'll be starting 10 Super Cali Haze. I'm planning on putting 6 of those in 10 gallon pots. Any that I get over the 6 I'll give to my friend to grow. I'm also planning on a second batch of supers once the SCH is done. Probably some Annapurna and Nirvana Sky. Those I'll order later on.

Also changing from mixing my own soil to Pro-Mix. I'll be using the same mix as what I've been using indoors, 6 parts Pro-Mix BX, 2 parts worm castings, 1 part perlite, plus bone and blood meal, humic acid, espon salts and a mycorrhizal innoculant. I'll also be treating all my plants with Brix Mix to raise their sugar level and hopefully deter spider mites as it's reported to do.

For autos I've got plenty of seeds. First up will probably be some Mi5. I'll be doing continuous grows of autos all summer as I've done in the past, starting a new batch about every 5-6 weeks.

That's it. So here's to a successful outdoor growing season.

So Muddy, there not autos? I was looking at the link & they have a short flower period.

Muddy
03-24-2011, 05:38 PM
No, they are full sized, photo period plants. The flowering times listed on the site are for indoors. They don't list outdoor finishing times but the indica/indica dominants should be finished by mid Oct. at the latest.

Yesterday I potted up the Super Cali Haze plants. Two went into 10 gallon pots and 1, the smallest, into a 5 gallon. If it takes off I'll put it into a bigger pot later. My other seedlings are looking good. They have recovered from some damping off and most are starting their 3rd set of leaves. Did loose two from the damping off so have a couple of replacements soaking, along with 3 Sour Diesel Haze supers. Also need to start some more autos. Have 3 Mi5 fems and 2 regulars going, so will probably start another 5 or 6. I've had everything but the seedlings in my outdoor box with my LED. With the SCH now outside and the HBD ready to harvest this weekend, that will only leave 6 Blue Himalayan and 3 Snowryders left in there. Going to shut it down, move the LED back indoors with the Snowryders and the 3 best BHs. The remaining BHs will go outside.

After this week I should have the $ to go to the nursery supply house for Pro-Mix and other supplies. I also need more large pots. I buy those used from a local landscape company. Probably going to pick up about a half dozen each 15 gallon, for the full size plants, and 10 gallon for the supers. Also ordered some 3 and 5 gallon grow bags. Want to try some Mi5s in the 5 gallon ones, and maybe a few supers.

On the autoflower network and roll it up I saw a few people growing the SCH. Everyone had really different looking plants. Some were almost 6' tall and some were short and really bushy. One guy had one that was almost 7' and still not flowering. Scared me away from them.

We had someone growing SCH on here lasts year. They were almost done when he got himself kicked off. His were indoors and not extremely big. Depends on pot size or if in the ground. The Chaze I had got to 42" in 3 gallon pots. These will be in 10 gallon so I expect they will get at around 5'. All the auto strains are still so new that they are not 100% stable for phenotypes.

Yeah, there was a good thread I found about SCH and all the various sizes people had. I still want to try them, but my max height would be around 40". Im well aware about the stability issues, 35" Flash Cobra that never auto'd haha. Had to 12/12 it.

Well, I finally have something to report on this grow. This year's outdoor grow has gotten off to a slow and rocky start. Not only was I late getting my plants started, I've run into some pH issues that have also slowed things down. I can't get affordable worm castings anymore so have had to change my soil mixture. Where I was buying is no longer selling in bulk, only 30 lb. bags for $30 each. Last fall I got a 20 gallon garbage can filled, better than 100 lbs., for $32. I would have needed at about 8 of the 30 lb bags and wasn't about to spend $250 on worm castings. So after considering my options, bought composted cow manure at Lowes. The pH of the manure is lower than what the worm casting were so it's thrown pH of my mixture off. Before the Pro-Mix had enough lime to keep the pH right around 6-6.2. Now it's down to about 5.6 so I've had to add lime. I wasn't sure how much to add and didn't have time to test much as I needed to get my plants in. So I will be testing and adjusting as I go.

I've mixed about 200 gallons of mix since Saturday. Filled up ten 15 gallon pots, one 10 gallon one, a few 3 gallon ones and some flower pots. Finally got the first 6 plants in today. Got 3 more that will be ready in another week. Here's the line up. All fems except the Afghani:

1 Amnesia Haze
1 LSD
1 Pineapple Chunk
1 Night Shade
1 Power Bud
1 Pineapplegum
1 Pakistan Valley
2 Afghani #1

Still looking to be a good grow. Thats lots of variety after harvest. I probably wouldve spent the money on the worm casting to keep all variables the same as last grows. But you will rock it regardless I'm sure. Lol.

I didn't have it to spend, plus they only had 3 bags left and won't have any more for months. It will work out, I just hate that I got such a late start. I would have liked to have had them by the end of April at the latest.

I wasn't planning that many different strains but finally convinced my friend to order some different things so we could swap. He's always "what are you getting", so I tell him and then he's "get me some of those too."

Thanks guys. I guess I'm just a little down about the whole thing. I was all set to get going this year and then my father's death set me back, and now at the 11th hour I've got to change my soil mix. I worked a year to get that mix where I wanted it. That's one reason I opted for the cow manure from Lowes, it's readily available. At least till I can get my own thing going. Will be getting chickens soon and someone down the road has rabbits for sale. I also want to get some goats again. Going to buy the Mrs. a new stove and move the one we have now to the garage. I'll use it for sterilizing the manure and powder coating. Once the plants get going I'll get into it. I just hate that I missed a lot of good vegging weather.

Happy to say that things are looking up. I added some lime to my pots and have given them a feeding with some dissolved in the mix and the plants have responded nicely. Tonight I planted the last three photo plants and feed them all. I'm expecting a good growth spurt over the next couple weeks to get them going.

I went back and checked my grow log from last year and I'm not as late on planting as I had thought. Didn't get my plants in last year till about the same time and they did well, so I'm relieved. I didn't get an early crop of autos like I usually do but that's okay. I've got a 4 Blue Himalayan and an Mi5 that were in the grow box that I moved outside. The grow box is now shut down till the fall. I already had a couple of Mi5s out, along with the SCH, so at least I'll have some ready soon.

Also thinking about ordering some more supers. I started 5 more SCH seeds and am thinking I'd like to get a few of another strain in. Maybe some Annapurna or Number One or maybe both. I've still got time to get a crop in if I get them in the pots by the beginning of July.

There are some on here from an indoor grow. The user was Buddhadawg, don't remember the thread title.

The ones I have going were from a test batch that had issues. I got 3, 1 didn't auto and the other two are runts. I wouldn't want to mislead anyone into thinking they were representative of the strain.

Finally got some rain the other day, first since I put the plants out, and they have responded nicely. Even 1 Afghani that was lagging behind is catching up. Everything is now over a foot tall, healthy and poised for some explosive growth.

Checked the pH of all the pots the other night and everything is now between 5.8 and 6.2. I was a little concerned as I just took a guess on how much lime to add. I added two cups per 15 gallons of mix and that seems to have been the perfect amount. Blind luck.

My first batch of autos, the ones that had the pH issues, are doing poorly. They were so stunted that they never really recovered. They are just about finished and I've got another batch of Mi5s started. They should be ready to go outside in another week. Soon as they are gone I'll start some more, probably some AAs. I was going to order some more supers but decided to just go with the Super Cali Haze for this year. I have 3 outside already and 5 more started. The first one sexed yesterday, a female, so the others should be right behind.

Sounds like your luck is like mine. Water has been an issue with me this year.
Im sure with a little hard work this grow will be just a great as the rest. Lugging water sucks ass though.
Hell, me and my friend have to ride at all hours of the night and I will jump out with a back pack with 6 gallons in it and 1 in each hand. Then back out and refill and to the next briar patch on the side of the road. Thats prtty much every night of the week. We dont keepm close to home either!! Lots of work in gooroo growing.
I just started some seedlings for late summer backups and a few differnt strains for me to have. Cant wait!!

I gave up my remote spot this year. Last two years haven't been worth it so no more. Everything is where I can get to it pretty easily. I'm still filling jugs but I can take em most of the way to the plants in a wheelbarrow. I just don't have enough storage, only one 55 gallon drum. A friend promised me a 275 gallon cube. When I get it I'm going to set it upon some block and run my downspout into it. With enough hose I should be able to gravity feed my plants.

The recent rains we've been getting are doing wonders for my plants. Right before the rains started I gave them a feeding of humic acid and some micro nutrients. The timing was perfect. Everything has doubled in size in the past week and are looking good. They are now big enough for their first topping, which I'll probably do today. Also time for another application of Liquid Fence. I've got a doe that's been hanging out in that area so need to make sure everything is protected.

Yesterday I potted 5 Super Cali Haze plants into 10 gallon pots. I also picked one of the two runts I had from the first planting of SCH. The other will be ready in a few more days. Got it hanging and am looking forward to my first taste. Both are heavily frosted and have a mild, fragrant aroma.

Also have some Mi5 that will be going out soon. Just starting to sex, so a few more days and it will be time to pot them up as well. These will be my first ones outdoors using Pro-Mix so I'm very curious to see how they do compared to the outdoor mix I used in the past.

I had an extra bale of BX that I sold to my friend. Told him to use 25-30% cow manure with it and some perlite. He mixed it 50% with topsoil and then added the manure and no perlite! He's so stoned all the time he can't remember anything I tell him. And he always wonders why his plants don't do as well as mine.

I'm liking the HP more indoors than the BX. Dries out a little quicker than the BX. Think I'll stay with the BX outdoors and the HP indoors.

Added 4 6500k CFLs to my veg area. Along with the 175 watt MH I'm now pushing over 20k lumens. Can't wait to start my next batch of seeds to see what a difference it makes.

My bale of BX is almost gone, next time I go back I'm getting the HP. Using straight HP would you recommend adding more perlite? I did add some extra to the BX on some of my plants it helped alot.

Whats the watts on those bulbs you added? The 6500k makes tight internodes and bushy plants, good til sexed.

Muddy

I'm using straight HP for veg, then adding the manure and more perlite when I transplant into the bigger pots. I haven't done a grow in just straight Pro-Mix since my first one, the Diesel Ryder, and that was BX.

The bulbs I got are 23W. I mounted them horizontally on the sides and built little reflectors for them out of some aluminum flashing I had, then lined the inside of those with mylar. I'll put a picture up so you can see. I think it's going to work real well.

Looks like we're in for another hot, dry spell. No rain in the last week and doesn't look good for next week either. So I gave everything a good soaking today. Night before I did a little pruning, topped a couple plants and removed a lot of little suckers from in close to the main stem. Everything looks good and healthy although I did see a little sign of cal deficiency on one plant, so gave it a little shot of cal/mag. I also saw that one of my two Afghani #1 is a male. If the other is a girl I'll be happy as I'd like to make some more seeds. I also wouldn't mind using that pollen on a couple of the other plants as well. Afghani goes good with just about anything.

I also moved the other 5 Super Cali Haze. I still had them sitting behind the garage and they are getting big, so time to move. Two of them have started to bud in the last couple days. They are looking nice and will love their new spot, lots of sun. I chopped the two runts from the first run last week and got a taste yesterday. It's one fine sativa strain. Very trippy, which usually don't like, but this was not uncomfortably so.

Fortunately I can get a wheel barrow pretty close so really don't have to carry the jugs very far. Where I have the SCH I can drive my tractor right up to them. I like to give the 15 gallon pots 3 gallons each, and the 10 gallon ones 2 gallons. So that's 39 gallon each watering. Takes my over an hour and a half to fill, mix and water.

lol me to
there is an old well that is it about a1000M away and about 80 metrs higher ive replaced all the 20 mil along the klick length and tried it this spring
i have to prime it (pain in the ass) as it is higher than my fields and I used it on my veg patch
trouble is IT holds about 3000L and i keep on getting air in my system when I water the crops and then have to reprime it(pain in the ass) no pump needed tho
maybe I should just use it for my mj they only need about 150 L every 3 days ill test it first tommorow for ph. I tested it for ppm about 3 months ago and it read 450 parts per million(higher than my tap water)
