Below is a tried & true formula for learning about the subject of
cultivating your own cannabis. Posting a basic question like "How do I
water my plants?" will probably get replies you still wont understand
because of your obvious lack of understanding for the fundamentals, if
it gets any serious replies at all. It also shows an unwillingness to
read and do your homework, something most experienced growers don't like
spending the time to do for others. If you've never grown anything
before, you need to learn some basic growing techniques AS you endeavor
to understand the cultivation of this thing we call Cannabis.
The Formula
LURK! READ! SEEK! LURK! READ! SEEK! LURK! READ! SEEK! THEN ASK!
The Definitions
LURK = Look at posts & replies that interest you, but make no posts.
READ = Read books & any other texts on the subjects.
SEEK = Use search engines to find information.
ASK = Post a question when the answer isn't found.
Lurking can reveal some interesting URL's for newbies, not just in the
text of the posted message, but in the senders signature block (sig) at
the very end of the message. Most regulars put a sig in almost every
post they make because they know it's important to see these links first
in order to get answers for the majority of the most common questions.
Sometimes the headers or the reply heading may even contain information
or url's. Many folks have grown their first successful crop just from
lurking.
Not all newbies are created equally. There are many levels of which one,
some, or all may apply to you. To gauge the degree of learning you may
be in for ask yourself these questions:
Are you new to growing anything?
Are you new to growing cannabis?
Are you new to growing indoors?
Are you new to computers?
Are you new to news groups and Usenet?
Are you new to alt.drugs.pot.cultivation (adpc)?
Are you new to anonymous posting and email?
It can be easy to feel overwhelmed depending on how many yes answers
you've made. Just relax, be patient, and lurk, read, & seek til you feel
confident enough to take your next step.
If you've answered yes to the last 3 questions you might wonder why there
can be so many junk posts without any cultivation content in adpc, or why
many news group regulars aren't replying to your anonymous remailer posts.
To find out more about this, and what you can do to improve your adpc
experience, see the adpcFreedom FAQ at.....
http://www.angelfire.com/clone/cacher/freedom/adpcFreedomFAQ.htm
When you make your first post to adpc it can be done two ways. One way is
simply to introduce yourself, the other is to ask a question. Introductions
are always accepted gracefully by the regulars of the group. A simple
subject line of "Hello" works well, you can mention any experience you may
or may not have cultivating, and what you think of the group from what
you've read so far from lurking. Newbie questions, aren't always treated as
gracefully by everyone in the group, but it really depends on the question,
and the answerer. Usenet, having a low signal to noise ratio, has its share
of haves and have-nots. Make note of the posters you've read who have
consistently provided cultivation content in their replies, don't get
sidetracked by those who have not.
It would be a good idea to mention that you have read the Newbie Resources
and/or exhausted your resources so that the regulars know you at least have
some background on the question you're asking. It's frustrating for many
to spend time replying with good advice only to find the person incapable
of taking advantage of that advice, it's a waste, and many won't invest the
extra time it takes to explain basic topics already covered in other adpc
resources or urls found in many news group posts. A little respect for
those who are willing to spend their time paying attention to your needs
or problems can go a long way, IOW the respect will be returned.
BTW an introduction along with a question gets very good results:-)

should make it easier to navigate, and help you more quickly find areas
